Pregnancy…… The Most Magical Moments of Anticipation

Pregnancy can be the most unforgettable time of life. Watching the body change while growing a new life is truly magical. Most women do experience annoying changes during the first trimester (12-14 weeks) due to a rapid increase in hormones. Although these symptoms are normal, they can interfere with daily activities and make life quite uncomfortable.

  • Symptoms can include:
  • Nausea and vomiting or hyperemesis gravidum
  • Severe fatigue
  • Heartburn
  • Constipation
  • Back pain
  • Headaches
  • Groin pain
  • Swelling and/or itching skin

As the pregnancy progresses, a baby may turn and be in a breech presentation (malposition of baby). As the end of term nears or passes, sometimes a health care provider will want to induce labor with medications. In many cases, an obstetrician or midwife will refer patients for acupuncture before considering traditional medical intervention.

Acupuncture and/or herbal formulas are quite helpful for all of the above issues. If treatment is sought, it is crucial that pregnant women seek the services of an acupuncturist with extensive experience treating prenatal conditions.
